That different skin types exist probably won’t be a surprise to you. And the fact that one color suits you better than the other will be no surprise either. But did you know that from the color of your skin you can tell which type of jewelry and colors suit you best? Usually you already have your own preference for certain clothes and jewelry. But which colors actually make you look prettier, and which ones will do the opposite? In this blog we show you how you can easily test this for yourself.
Cool, warm or neutral undertone
As opposed to what is often generally thought, the undertone of your skin is not the same as your skin tone. The undertone of your skin is the color that lies underneath the surface of your skin. The undertone can be divided into cool, warm or neutral undertones. Therefore, it is possible that your skin tone might be the same as someone else’s, but you do not share the same undertone. The undertone of your skin almost always stays the same your entire life.
The color of your skin is what you see on the surface of your skin. Your skin color however, is not always the same. It can change with medication, hormones and under the influence of the sun. This explains why certain colors don’t suit you in wintertime but will suit you in summer!
It´s in your blood
You can easily test which undertone color your skin has. By checking the veins on the inside of your wrists you can see what the undertone of your skin is. When your veins have a blue-ish or purple color, you have a cool undertone. Are your veins more green, then you have a warm skin undertone. It’s also possible that you spot both blue and green veins on your wrist. In that case you have a neutral undertone.
Doubting about the color of your veins? Try the foil test! Just put a piece of silver and gold foil closely to your face (preferably without any make-up on). Does your face light up when you put the golden foil next to your face? Then you have a warm undertone. When silver suits you best, you have a cool undertone.
You have an eye for it
Still not convinced? Often you can tell by your (natural) hair color and eye color what your skin tone and undertone of your skin is. In general people with blue, green or grey eyes with a light hair color have cool undertones. Do you have (hazel)brown eyes with dark hair and a dark skin? Then your undertone is probably warm.
When you have a cool undertone in your skin, your skin color is often a bit pink colored. The pigment hemoglobin is dominant in this skin color. Therefore, soft and light colors will suit you best. When your skin has this undertone, silver jewelry will complement you wonderfully.
When you have a warm undertone in your skin, golden jewelry will definitely bring out the natural glow in your skin. For this skin tone the pigment carotene is dominant. Generally warm shades and natural shades will look pretty on you.
Besides gold, rose gold will also match your skin tone perfectly.
When you have a neutral undertone, you’re lucky: both silver and gold colored jewelry will suit you. People with neutral skin tones have a mixture of both cool and warm skin tones in one. Therefore, you can rock both gold and silver. However, a mixture of silver and gold or silver with rose gold will also look beautiful on you.
Diamonds are a girl’s best friend
If you don’t want to stick to one color but want to choose for something that will go with anything: try diamonds! Marylin Monroe sang it years ago, and it is still true till this day. Diamonds and beautiful zirconia’s are never out of fashion! Wear them solo or combine them with a ring of your preference.
There is no accounting for taste. Maybe from this test you will find that you are a cool type, but you actually like rose gold jewelry. No stress! The fact that you have a cool undertone in your skin does not mean you have to stop wearing certain colors. You can still wear the jewelry that you like. It is all a matter of taste. You can also try a nice mix and match. Our advice: Mix the colors in an uneven number. For example: make two-thirds of your jewelry silver and one-third gold or rose gold.
